Self-Assessment
Well, now it is time for me to critique my own work. I think that I fulfilled almost all of the requirements fairly well. The only area that I may be lacking in is my internal citations. I wrote most of my paper solely off of the knowledge that I had in my head because of how much I already knew about the show from watching it. I had a few internal citations, however, they were limited because I used very little paraphrasing and even fewer direct quotes.
I am proud of my research paper I would say. I think that I covered all of the material thoroughly and explained the topic that I chose for myself extremely well. I found it very interesting and easy to write about; even though it is not the longest research paper in the world, I found it to be one of the more entertaining research papers I have ever had the pleasure of writing. I am also proud of the overall product I would say. I thought it would be very hard to find a fun topic to write about, but since I was allowed the freedom to choose any topic that I desired, I was able to truly write about something that I was able to get excited about.
I would say the most challenging part of the project was working on it over the thanksgiving break. I had family I town that I had not seen for several years and as much as I wanted to be working on my research project, I had to spend some time with family while they were visiting. Sadly, I was not ale to spend as much time as I wanted to working on the project. However, not to fret, I think that the finished product is everything that I hoped I would be.
I used all of my computer lab and media center time to the fullest extent. I am a big believer in working while at school and enjoying leisure outside of school. Every moment that I spent in school working in the computer lab or the media center was spent working diligently toward completing as much of the research project as possible, because my intent was to leave as little work as possible to do at home. I honestly don't understand people that choose to mess around at school and waste the privilege of having a computer lab at school to work on projects.
Despite my diligence in class, there was still much to be done outside of class. Little by little, I completed the research project by doing just enough every day so that I was not overwhelmed, nor was I procrastinating by any sense of the term. Similarly to the exemplary research project, most of the heavy writing took place outside of class because I find it best to keep the creative juices flowing for as long as possible without losing interest of productivity.
The most surprising thing about the project was how much I enjoyed doing it. Typically, I despise doing projects, but I was able to find something that I was passionate about. Another thing that surprised me was the versatility of the Weebly website creator. I was truly astounded by how simple it was to create my own website. I thought that all of the templates and tools were very straight forward and easy to use. I believe that anyone that has any basis of knowledge about modern computers could use Weebly to create their very own website.
My best source of information was without a doubt my own brain. I have a vast knowledge of both Sons of Anarchy and of Hamlet. Thanks to my British literature teachers in sophomore year of high school ( Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Enzwieler) I was very informed about the works of William Shakespeare. Due to my interest in the television series, I have devoted countless hours to watching every episode to date of Sons of Anarchy by using Netflix and the channel FX.
This project differs from previous academic papers because there were no restrictions on creativity. The topic was open-ended which was alarming at first, but later I appreciated this aspect of the project tremendously. Similarly to past projects, an outline was given to guide me through the project, however, these guidelines were not requirements. I enjoyed this aspect of the project as well; it allowed me to work with minimal stress because I knew that any idea that popped into my head could become reality in just a few short moments and a couple of clicks on my computer mouse.
